Mass Effect: Shepard

A product description in the Bioware Gear Store has implied that Commander Shepard is returning in the new Mass Effect.

Danger! Spoiler warning! If you never played through Mass Effect 3 and don't want to be anticipated, you should immediately press the "Back" button. We do not come across this topic to go into what happens at the end of Bioware's popular role -playing trilogy. After all, it is about the fate of the main character Commander Shepard.

The Youtuber Mrhulthen came across an interesting find. He noticed that the description for a poster for the new Mass Effect in the Bioware Gear Store originally indicated that Shepard will appear in the fifth game of the series. Then it said: "The show continues. Shepard's final quest may have stopped the threats from the Reaper, but at a high price that contains the earth itself. While Shepard and the survivors have to pick up the shards, the fans wonder how it continues. "

It is no surprise that Bioware has changed the text after Mrhulthen has made the general public aware of it. According to Michael Gamble, Project Director for the new Mass Effect, it is a mistake. On Twitter he writes: "The original was written by people who take care of the store and are not familiar with the game." Whether he says this because it actually corresponds to the truth and Shepard does not play a role in the new part, or just hopes to take the wind out of the sails from the speculations of the fans.

Return from the dead? Not necessarily

A return of Shepard is indeed nothing, with which most "Mass Effect" players calculate. After all, the story of Mass Effect 3 should not have ended a good end to most of the people. The final of the trilogy offers several ends. In the original version, there were three pieces (with two slightly different variants each), all of which had one thing in common: the death of Shepard. Only with an update has a fourth end that allows hero to survive in one of his two versions. To achieve them, you have to complete all side missions and DLCs in order to achieve a very high value for military strength.

Many fans would surely be happy if Commander Shepard will reappear in the next Mass Effect. Mass Effect: Andromeda was not well received by the community for many reasons and the weak protagonist was one reason for this. Therefore, it is not so unlikely that Bioware prefers to be on the safe side and bring Shepard back as the main character instead of thinking out the next hero who does not meet the requirements of the fans.

Shepard's story has ended - should she stay?

But it is not the case that every "Mass Effect" player fevers a comeback from Shepard. Reddit user Twodisguized wrote a contribution in the course of the leaks, in the heading of which he asks: "Am I in the minority when I say that I don't want to have Shepard back?" He argues that his/her history is counted: "Even if you don't like the end, it is still an end. It was not intended to continue."

Mass Effect 3: Commander Shepard Twodisguised wants to have more "Mass Effect" games, but if Shepard is involved in it, he will not feel a hype for it. "Shepard was once brought back by the dead [editor's note: at the beginning of Mass Effect 2 he is almost dead]. If that would happen again, it would feel a bit cheap," he writes. If Bioware takes this step, Mass Effect would in his opinion become Star Wars, where popular characters were only brought back for nostalgic reasons, which many did not get well with. Part of the fan base has angered this and the community has been split since then and very toxic. Twodisguized does not want the same to happen with the "Mass Effect" fan base. In addition, he was fed up with so many franchise old characters and calls up to create new figures that people can fall in love with.

The comments below the article shows that Twodisguized is not alone with his opinion. "Shepard's story was told. I really hope that we will get something new," says Blinkyslc and Thespirituagnostic. Diefree85, on the other hand, writes that he would have no problem with Shepard more of the role of a mentor like Anderson in the original trilogy.

But there are also those who are completely different. "Seriously, this whole 'Shepard's story is over' argument becomes tiring. Yes, the story has ended, but where is it written that it can not start any further?" Says Undertakla and draws a good comparison to God of War: " Kratos' Story ended in the third game, but [she] Santa Monica decided to bring him back. They gave him new goals, new friends and new enemies and it turned out to be great. " We cannot contradict. The God of War from 2018 is one of the best games of the past generation of consoles and has counted Kratos' history as well as nobody would have expected. Who says that Mass Effect and Shepard couldn't happen the same?
